Esme Weatherwax: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLIE!
Yep, that’s right- on this day in 1630 (29th May) the world became a whole lot more fabulous as Charles Stuart, later to become King Charles II of England, was born.
Of course, we all know what he looked like, because…
Yes those English monarchs who decided to invade and fuck up many other countries were such spiffing chaps! I know we in Ireland certainly loved having him and his predecessors in charge.
Better than Cromwell surely? And it wasn’t just English monarchs who invaded other countries in those days.
Being better than Cromwell isn’t a glowing recommendation. Of course they did, but it was English monarchs that invaded my country and this was the post that came across my dash. Not being the only ones doesn’t make them any less of shitty horrible people.
^^ Yeah, this.
How does anyone think being better than Crowmell is any sort of valid gauge of a person’s not being an evil fucker status!
People vilify and condemn Oliver Cromwell for what he did in Ireland - and obviously rightfully so - but his beliefs and attitude toward Ireland were by no means unique. Whoever had ended up coming over here from England to quell us, would have been just a big a shit head as he was.
And the ironic thing is, even though Cromwell was all anti-monarchy and pro-republic, he still thought the same way about the Irish people that all the English monarchs did (apart from possibly James II).
I’m trying to decide what to do about Fluffy, my oldest cat.
She’s 13, has a huge osteosarcoma on her hip, lupus, had a digit removed because of cancer in February. She’s not grooming herself and is matting. When I got her matts shaved a few weeks ago we found a few new little lumps on her skin under them. They’ve grown to three times their original size now. Her pads on all her paws seem to be very sore now. She’s still eating but I don’t know how happy she is. I don’t know what to do, if it’s time for her to be put down.
Aw, poor Fluffy, it sounds like she’s really gone downhill lately. :’((((
An outdoor bed I made for the cats at my boyfriend’s parents house. It’s made using an old plastic barrel, Styrofoam, straw and cushioned cat bed. Their three outdoor cats have all been seen using it, so it seems to have met cat approval!
This is what happens when I get bored whilst studying oxidation-reduction reactions for my AP Chemistry test on Monday. For all of you who are in the same boat as me, enjoy :3

Quantum Mechanics!: The Boltzmann Lament
No greater love, some chemists say,
than that of Boltzmann and his k.
The constant made him quite afflicted
and to an early grave (he self-inflicted).How can we live with this duplicity
in a world of endless multiplicities?
I once tried to clean my room, you see,
But the universe increased its entropy.Could anyone ever truly follow
such a sad lifetime full of sorrow?
For we’re all alone with these notations,
even with Maxwell’s relations. And oh, what would good old NIST
possibly begin to think about of all this?
But alas, there was nowhere to start
for questions put forth by the heart. We’re star-crossed lovers, pchem and I,
And I understand why Boltzmann cried.
When asked if I would marry, would I say yes?
I could only yell my reply: VdP plus TdS!I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t end it,
What’s the use, I cannot mend it!
I am feeling warm, I need a refresher.
What was constant, temperature or pressure?Oh, the probability density may disappoint,
But I get faint at the thought of the triple point.
And energies, like jewels, they sing to me.
Especially in exponent, divided by kT.They said, are you hungry? You look faint ‘round the eyes.
I looked up from my work, full of surprise.
I could not eat in all my frustration
when calculating the partition for vibration.“Electronic, translation, rotation!” I gasped.
Each was more beautiful than the last.
And with gases ideal, I knew what to do.
The free energy was minus kT ln of Q.I think the spirit of Boltzmann has me possessed
For I spent two weeks deciding which I liked best,
those energies, potential or kinetic.
I think these problems are genetic.Boltzmann, soon we shall meet,
Hand in hand, Einstein we shall greet.
In the meantime, though, I’ve got just the ticket:

Tim Hawkinson, Mobius Ship, 2006, wood, plastic, Plexiglas, rope, staples, string, twist ties, glue
California-based artist Tim Hawkinson is known for taking everyday materials and altering them in imaginative ways, creating works that address broad issues about the intersection of human consciousness, nature and technology. Here, he employed a mix of found objects and common household materials—including twist ties, craft wood, staples, and packing material—which he transformed almost alchemically into a complex and awe-inspiring sculpture.
Echoing the working methods of ship-in-a-bottle hobbyists, Hawkinson created a painstakingly detailed model ship that twists in upon itself, presenting the viewer with a thought-provoking visual conundrum. The title is a witty play on Herman Melville’s novel Moby Dick, which famously relates the tale of a ship captain’s all-consuming obsession with an elusive white whale. The ambitious and imaginative structure of Hawkinson’s sculpture offers an uncanny visual metaphor for Melville’s epic tale, which is often considered the ultimate American novel.
Möbius Ship also humorously refers to the mathematical concept of the Möbius Strip. Named after a nineteenth-century astronomer and mathematician, the Möbius Strip is a surface that has only one side, and exists as a continuous curve. Its simple yet complex spatial configuration presents a visual puzzle that parallels Hawkinson’s transformation of the mundane materials into something unexpected.

This is amazing! :)
